the story so far...

ometime in 1987 Geoff answered an agent’s ad in the Melbourne Age newspaper ‘seeking piano player/vocalists’ and proceeded to record a four-song demo in someone’s home studio and front up for an interview. Shortly after, the agent miraculously offered him a four-week residency on Lindeman Island on the Great Barrier Reef as the 6pm-9pm piano entertainer. And off he went.

At that time he could play only about 30 songs - mostly slow ones - but somehow still managed to score an invitation back to the island for a three-month contract the following summer. Being payed $450 a week (plus hotel room and food) to play, sing and drink large quantities of free beer at night whilst golfing/snorkeling/waterskiing/loafing around all day did indeed seem like rather a good idea, and irresistible as a career alternative.

Geoff promptly returned to Melbourne, quit his job as PR manager for Victoria's railway system and returned to Lindeman. At that point, with the encouragement of now-Australian country music identity Rob Wilson (then obscure-but-still-bloody-good-singer/guitarist Rob Wilson), he began writing songs for his first humble release; a cassette entitled ‘Don’t Need A Reason’.

Following the Lindeman gig came engagements in Victoria and Tasmania, and Geoff ultimately ended up as a regular fixture in Hobart at Wrest Point Casino’s Birdcage Bar. In 1990 he formed 'Miasma' with fellow musicians Annie and Danny Moore and a year later the group began a six-month tour of Europe, playing venues in England, Scotland, Belgium and Spain before splitting in July 1992. Armed with new experiences and a fresh supply of both original and cover songs - Geoff went went back to solo performing.

His first CD - 'The Path', was recorded between 1991 and 1993 in Australia with producers Rob Merlini and Greg Frith and several top Australian session players, including saxophonist Tony Buchanan (Michael Franks, Crossfire, Little River Band).

In 1993 Geoff was offered a contract to record a second studio album, 'Wait For Me' with producer Rolf Wetzel at Soundhouse Studios in Aasen, Germany. A follow-up album was recorded soon after - once again at Aasen with Rolf Wetzel and Don Mitchell at the helm, although for contractual reasons it remains unreleased. Five of Geoff's songs from these sessions were also recorded by Romanian artist Paula Seling on her 1998 album 'Only Love'.

After a 6-year break from writing and recording Geoff returned to Australia and the studio in 1999 for the self-produced 'Love In A Suit', collaborating with saxophonist Craig 'Lowly' Spink and English guitarist/songwriter Robin Kimberley.

His fifth studio CD of original pop/rock songs - Canvas Of My Memory - was written and recorded in Germany and Switzerland and independently released in June 2005. Says Geoff of the album: “I have a tendency towards retrospect and so the album's title and the booklet design is a reflection of that. The inspiration for most of the songs, though, came from not just my own life but also my observations of others - mostly people I know - in their various situations. This album's been the most home-grown and enjoyable one to write and record so far, and I doubt that it'll be another six years before the next one comes around…”

Geoff has played in 11 countries and earned a reputation as one of Europe's most versatile piano entertainers, with a repertoire of more than 1000 songs covering a broad range of styles (Which is better than only being able to play about 30 ballads)...
