I was born and raised on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I got mediocre high school grades because I couldn't really be bothered, skipped classes and played the piano a lot and became addicted to pop music. After leaving school I got a job in a bank (not much more satisfying than the shoe department at K-Mart, but it paid a bit more) and once thought journalism would be something I'd be really good at.
